Program Overview
UAS’s BIOL 493, “Oceanographic Expedition” and PS 493, “Political Ecology Expedition” provide students with an interdisciplinary experience as a team member of a kayaking expedition, immersing students in the extraordinary natural wilderness of Southeast Alaska. While traveling and camping in one of Southeast Alaska’s most beautiful fjords, enrolled students will learn wilderness skills which will give them greater confidence in planning their own outdoor excursions. Students and instructors will also reflect on the changing nature of the Southeast Alaska natural environment, and humans’ relationship to nature.
